Optical transmitter MOS212
1. Product description
The optical transmitter MOS212 (in text - transmitter) is a direct modulated 1550 nm DFB laser transmitter
for analog and digital TV signals transmission within 15 km distance.
The transmitter is available on different optical output power. The output power range is from 6 dBm
(MOS212A) up to 10 dBm (MOS212C).
The transmitter employs high performance, thermally stabilized highly linear the DFB laser with optical isolator.
The transmitter has automatic gain control for constant optical modulation index (OMI), automatic thermo-cooler
control for constant laser temperature and automatic laser power control for constant optical output.
The product is intended for indoor usage only.
RoHS compliant.
2. Safety instructions
The transmitter is powered from mains 230 V~. This voltage is dangerous to life.
Adjustment, maintenance and repair of the equipment should only be carried out by suitably qualied personnel.
To avoid the electric shock follow these instructions:
Do not remove the cover of transmitter, without isolating the unit from the mains supply.
Do not plug the transmitter into the mains supply if the power cord or plug are damaged.
Do not plug the transmitter into the mains supply until all cables have been connected correctly.
To disconnect the transmitter, disconnect plug from mains socket.
The mains socket must be easily accessible.
The transmitter shall not be exposed to dripping or splashing water and no objects lled with liquids, such
as vases, shall be placed on it.
Avoid placing transmitter next to central heating components and in areas of high humidity.
No naked ame sources, such as lighted candles, should be placed on transmitter.
If the transmitter has been kept in cold conditions for a long time, keep it in a warm room no less than 2
hours before plugging into the mains.
The ventilation should not be impeded by covering the ventilation openings with items, such as newspapers,
table-cloths, curtains.
This product complies with the relevant clauses of the European Directive 2002/96/EC. The unit must
be recycled or discarded according to applicable local and national regulations.
3. Optical safety
Optical Transmitter module contain laser diode sources operating at 1550 nm. These devices are rated at
under IEC60825-1:2007 “Safety Of Laser Products”, Part 1: Equipment classication and requirements as
CLASS 1 laser product.
INVISIBLE LASER RADIATION DO NOT VIEW DIRECTLY WITH
OPTICAL INSTRUMENTS CLASS 1 LASER PRODUCT
Wavelength 1,5 µm
Peak Output Power 30 mw
IEC60825-1:2007
When operating the equipment note the following:
Most ber optic laser wavelengths (1310 nm and 1550 nm) are totally invisible to the eye and will cause
permanent eye damage.
Never look into the end of a ber on a powered device with any sort of magnifying device. This includes
microscopes, eye loupes and magnifying glasses. Always double check that power is disconnected before
using such devices. If possible, completely disconnect the unit from any power source.
Always use instruments, such as an optical power meter, to verify light output.
Operate only with the proper optical ber installed in the transmitter optical connector.
The laser transmitter should be turned off whenever the optical connector is empty.
Always connect a ber to the output of the device before power is applied.
Never leave equipment with radiating bare bres accessible – always cap the connectors.3
