Operator Safety
WARNING
Fuel and its vapors are extremely flammable
and explosive. Always handle fuel with
extreme care.
Failure to observe these safety instructions can
cause a fire or explosion which will result in
severe burns or death.
WHEN ADDING FUEL
• Turnoffengineandletcoolatleast2minutesbefore
removing the fuel cap and adding fuel.
• Fillfueltankoutdoorsorinawellventilatedarea.
• Donotoverfillthefueltank.Toallowfortheexpansionof
gasoline, do not fill above the bottom of the fuel tank neck.
• Keepfuelawayfromsparks,openflames,pilotlights,heat,
and other ignition sources.
• Checkfuellines,cap,andfittingsfrequentlyforcracksor
leaks. Replace if necessary.
• Useanapprovedfuelcontainer.
• Iffuelspills,waituntilitevaporatesbeforestartingengine.
WHEN STARTING ENGINE
• Ensurethatsparkplug,muffler,fuelcap,andaircleaner(if
equipped) are in place and secured.
• Donotcranktheenginewiththesparkplugremoved.
• Iffuelisspilled,donotattempttostarttheengine,butmove
the snowthrower away from the area of the spill, and avoid
creating any source of ignition, until the fuel vapors have
dissipated.
• Donotover-primetheengine.Followtheenginestarting
instructions in this manual.
• Iftheenginefloods,setchoke(ifequipped)toOPEN/RUN
position, move throttle (if equipped) to FAST position and
crank until engine starts.
WHEN OPERATING EQUIPMENT
• Donottipthesnowthroweratananglewhichcausesthefuel
to spill.
• Donotchokethecarburetortostoptheengine.
• Neverruntheenginewiththeaircleanerassembly(if
equipped) or the air filter (if equipped) removed.
WHEN CHANGING OIL
• Ifyoudraintheoilfromthetopoilfilltube,thefueltankmust
be empty or fuel can leak out and result in a fire or explosion.
WHEN TRANSPORTING EQUIPMENT
• TransportwithfueltankEMPTY,orwithfuelshut-offvalve
OFF.
WHEN STORING GASOLINE OR EQUIPMENT WITH FUEL
IN TANK
• Storeawayfromfurnaces,stoves,waterheaters,orother
appliances that have pilot light or other ignition source
because they can ignite fuel vapors.
WARNING
Safe operation of the snowthrower requires the
proper care and maintenance of the engine.
• Disengageallclutchesandshiftintoneutralbeforestarting
the engine may cause personal injury.
• Lettheengineadjusttooutdoortemperaturesbeforestarting
to clear snow.
• Useagroundedthree-wireplugforallsnowthrowers
equipped with electric drive motors or electric starting
motors.
WARNING
Starting engine creates sparking.
Sparking can ignite nearby flammable gases.
Explosion and fire could result.
• IfthereisnaturalorLPgasleakageinarea,donotstart
engine.
• Donotusepressurizedstartingfluidsbecausevapors
are flammable.
WARNING
Running the engine produces heat. Engine
parts, especially muffler, become extremely
hot.
Failure to observe these safety instructions
could result in severe thermal burns on
contact.
• Nevertouchahotengineormuffler.Allowmuffler,engine
cylinder, and fins to cool before touching.
• Removedebrisfrommufflerareaandcylinderarea.
• Installandmaintaininworkingorderasparkarresterbefore
using equipment on forest-covered, grass-covered, or brush-
covered unimproved land.
• ItisaviolationofCaliforniaPublicResourceCode,
Section 4442, to use or operate the engine on any forest-
covered, brush-covered, or grass-covered land unless the
exhaust system is equipped with a spark arrester, as defined
in Section 4442, maintained in effective working order. Other
states or federal jurisdictions may have similar laws. Contact
the original equipment manufacturer, retailer, or dealer to
obtain a spark arrester designed for the exhaust system
installed on this engine.
